The issue is - is it better to be "making up the numbers" in the EPL (which, humble though it sounds, means that the club gets a lot of money, can afford some pretty bloody good players, and plays regular fixtures every season against some of the world's strongest clubs), or to be ruling the roost in a Mickey Mouse league (which involves a load of dross matches the result of which is pretty much a foregone conclusion, but pretty much guarantees Champions' League football, means playing in front of huge crowds (at home!), brings good money and a lot of good players).
