I'm afraid I do not know the answer to that question...

(seriously, I work for T-Mobile and work in the Netherlands, not for Orange in the UK).

But how it normally works is that your contract has ended, and a prepaid has no contract so you can always buy a prepaid SIM. Over here you can then request number porting to get the same phone number back. So ask Orange if you can port your number to a prepaid SIM.
