The crowd aren't on the pitch

They don't pick the team, or decide tactics.

They only provide atmosphere. Useful, but I have yet to see the crowd knock in a 25 yarder.

As for losing 4 games by the odd goal, to decent teams, that's how teams get into the habit of not winning.

We lost 11 games by the odd goal in 1994/5.
