OK, my next step would be to open in safe and call up Task Manager

and take a screen shot of what's running. Then again, being paranoid, I often do this even when everything's running fine, so I'd stand a better chance of seeing something new. I realise this isn't much help but I think you need Karn or Jafski for this.
