Depends how brave/confident you are

Replacing it yourself is really cheap, but I gather it's quite fiddly and there is some risk of damaging the unit if you do it wrong.

I'd say that sending it to Apple is a bit of a rip-off as many 3rd part places do an excellent job for about 40 quid.
