Chance after chance went begging as City laid siege to the visitor's goal. Peter Thorne saw his free header fall agonisingly wide of the far post, Hughes blazed over from just outside the box and Ashton saw his snap shot on the turn brilliantly turned away by the Taffy Keeper. But all was to no avail when Cardiff killed off the game scoring from their first corner of the night. The ball was curled in, there was a moment of panic in the City defence, and [a Cardiff player] had the simplest of tasks to nod home from no more than 3 yards out.
