Unless Ossie Ardiles or Kevin Keegan succeeded Lambert, it was always destined to be thus.

That's not to say there aren't improvements to be had though - we're almost bottom of the goal scoring chart for a reason. But I don't think that reason is overtly negative football, despite what anyone says.
