the gulf between the top and second tier was nowher enear as big then. Now its considered to be Prem or nothing by most people, which is rather sad. And the financial gulf makes it hard NOT to make changes if you go down. The Prem teams now have so much money they canb afford to keep good Championship standard players as mere squad players and still pay them more money than a Championship team can consider.
