Yes, very good. The AC series has got better with each release, from a terrible start.

The first AC game was a really good idea, and pretty, but awful to play (partly for the reasons you cite), AC2 was mush better and AC: Revelations (or whatever it was called) was even better than that.

There are still quite a few cut scenes though, so if you're not very bright or lack attention span, they might annoy you.
