Tech advice required...

My dad is looking to replace his desktop, any recommendations on a decent machine? He only uses it for excel, word, and internet really but the grandkids wouldn't complain if it was decent for gaming. Looking for something that isn't hugely expensive but that won't be obsolete in a couple of years. I've been a Mac user for years and years so I'm pretty ignorant about PCs. Thanks in advance
