i said that to the missus as we watched it.....!

the questions I have over the test are that....

1- they landed short of the runway, in sand, with nose wheel down and hitting the ground first, it was always going to dig in, act as a break and rip the cockpit and front section off.....

2 - in a crash situation, wouldnt they be better either going for water with no landing gear deployed, or even if on land, no landing gear deployed.....

I've personally witnessed a harrier land with no landing gear (as a normal landing, not vertical) - they radioed into the tower to advise no landing gear, so the fire section sprayed 1000's ltrs of foam over the runway as the harrier flew round and around to use up excess fuel.... then it landed with nothing more than a skid.......
