In all seriousness, all he had to say to appear reasonable was

"I don't condone diving and Luis knows that. It was a clear dive, I've spoken to Luis about it and it's something we're working on. Luis' reputation goes before him and as a consequence he's getting some very rough treatment from opponents, who believe they can foul him and will get away with it because referees are wary of Luis. I think at the moment Luis does need protection from referees, because he's taking some very rough treatment that could lead to a serious injury. We need to get a grip of the situation and it's something I'll be speaking to the referees about."

Is that too honest? People can see it with their own eyes - his choice is to look a total t**t to 99% of people, or be a man.
