Worthington's in a strong position to negotiate a nice settlement. Sure, he can stay and insist on full payment of his contract, but then he runs the risk of his reputation suffering by further defeats, possibly even relegation. If he harbours any ambition at all to progress further in the game, he won't want that to happen. He can get out now while he's still remembered as the guy who got Norwich promoted, or he can linger and risk becoming the guy who got Norwich relegated twice. Which will future employer's rather have, and pay good money to get?
It's in his interests to go as much as ours, so I'd argue he'd be able to negotiate a settlement such that he wouldn't actually lose out at all.
