We didn't really deserve to go up that year, but we did - not because of our brilliant players but because of the brilliant spirit. To coin a clich? Worthy created a whole much greater than the sum of its parts and that league-winning season was a hell of a ride. We'd also had some good times in the previous few terms.
But then he dismantled it, getting rid of players who while not the most skilful certainly contributed to the dressing room ethos, and bringing others in but playing them in odd places (I was *so* excited when we signed Helveg...). He never rebuilt the team spirit he pulled apart.
He just seemed to lose it once we'd gone up and I'll never really understand why that was. I bear him no malice and he certainly gave us some good times, but I bear him no particular goodwill either if I'm honest, which is doubtless unfair of me but that's how it is.
