But it seems a like a logical progression and I was surprised nobody else picked up on it. Making payments between clubs for winning games illegal makes it much harder to bribe a club to pay you to win - therefore it should remain illegal. How would we like it, if, at the end of the season, a team like Fulham in midtable said to us "pay ?1m if we win or we'll field a weakened side" when them winning would guarantee our safety?
