Didn't work too badly for Granada went up 2 or 3 divisions when the Pozzi family brought

them as a feeder club for Udinese. Decent article on the BBC a few weeks back. It explains the system behind it, basically to produce top players ready for top flight football at Udinese but the system also allows the feeder club to progress. It is an interesting idea and Udinese have definitely over achieved in the last decade or so, especially as every year they have to sell their best players to make ends meet, hence the feeder system.
