Football is and always will be my favourite sport

but there's room for a bit more in my head.

It's hardly football's fault that we have witnessed the greatest sporting summer in history - but its time will come again.

And anyway, the Italia 90 semi final against West Germany still remains the high water mark for collective sport viewing in this country and no sporting event affected me more, before or since.
