less than ?200 (go for 16gb version i would say).
guaranteed quicker and more updates software wise as a nexus device
great all rounder
more portable at 7"

kindle fire HD pros

very competitive price
16gb minimum storage.
has alot of cool software tweaks from amazon such as whispersync and multiple accounts (good if you want kids to use tablet as well)

If I had the money, i would buy an ipad
However the geek in me prefers the nexus 7, more flexible and a great tablet at the fraction of an ipad cost
