USA paraathletes (and able athletes too probably) are reliant on raising commercial and college sponsorship.
I'll go out on a limb and say many Americans don't really know how to deal with disabilities* / public aren't that interested so parathletes aren't that marketable for sponsors.
(*eg my godparents adopted out their 3rd born because she had Downs and they couldn't face the stigma)
