I agree.....

and thats where the law has a grey area.....different people exculate to a different level.....

however a good rule of thumb to stay within the law is to only use the same force which is displayed against you!! This is when being well trained and disciplined, has a legal advantage over being a civvie with red mist...

If I'm in bed and hear an intruder at 3am, go downstairs, I'd hope i use reasonable force against him to apprehend him or to protect myself/family.

I wouldnt shoot a burgler in the back whos crouched down trying to unplug my tv........

Had he turned round, attacked me or my family, I'd use whatever force neccessary to protect me/them, and/or apprehend him. If that meant t**tting him over the head with a poker, then I would. The law would be on my side if I could prove he came at ME or threatened me or my family....
