(Well, I say back, in fact I'm in a hotel next to Paddington as I'm moving out to Poland tomorrow and flying from Heathrow at the crack of dawn, but that's a technicality...)
I thought we were flippin' sooper dooper compared to last week's shower. It all seemed to stem from the defence - Bassong gave everyone more confidence I thought. Even Barnett looked competent! I'm a big fan of the way Hughton seems to be giving players like Leon and SCM a chance to prove their worth, and isn't scared to make wholesale changes. I think it was inevitable that the squad would have to gain strength in depth this season and that seems to be exactly what he's done. The full-backs were also an attacking threat - Gary Doe has a peach of a left peg. I thought BJ broke up the play well and criminally over-penalised by Shattenburg. I guess he's feeling the pressure given Tetley's signing and the Biglia roomers. In fact the whole midfield linked up miles better than last week. I love Snoddy. And Jackson! What a performance! So much running, and way more effective than his games last season I thought. Holt put in a shift too, lots of effort and shook up the R's defence. Abysmal miss with that header though.
Not going to talk about the penalty, encroachment for the goal or Greeno not seeing red as the game is gone and it'll just get me het up. Lack of three points aside, I thought this was a fantastic performance and a great tonic to last week's false start. Very confident as I head off to Eastern Europe. OTBC!
