Greeno has been mentally spent ever since he was given a run as England keeper

I think that he was at times so obsessed with becoming England's goalkeeper that he lost perspective of what's really important, club football. He left Norwich (where he was a hero) for it and often went out of his way to get attention from England coaches like with the England's No.6 gloves fiasco at West Ham.

I think it was around Dec 09 he got some kind of flu like illness but played through it, only being subbed off on one occasion when he vomited at Upton Park against Man United. He was so intent on suffering through it because he wanted to keep the England goaly's jersey, but to the detriment of his own form.

He was already struggling to fill the international role as mistakes in the world cup 2010 qualifying matches and friendlies would attest to. That was when he was at the top of his game. By the time he got to the world cup he was so out of form due to the strain he was putting himself under and the inevitable happened.

Now, when you've reached an obvious career high, but have failed, where do you go from there? Nothing to play for because your dreams are broken. Nothing to play for because the only thing you have left you've treated as second best and unimportant. I guess Green is very unmotivated because of the above factors.

I actually believe that he was happy working (maybe not playing) at West Ham but only left for a big contract at QPR because money is all that he can get out of the game now, seeing as his true love is beyond him. He certainly doesn't seem to bothered about pushing himself anymore. His body language looks similar to that of the 05/06 season when he clearly didn't want to be at Norwich.

Thankfully John Ruddy seems far more level headed, while I believe that he has far more mental resiliance than Green. He also looks a better goalkeeper in his mid twenties than Green was at the same age, especially as a well rounded keeper beyond shot stopping. Hopefully Ruddy will learn from Green's mistakes and remember what's important and what should come first.

Probably bollocks, but just my take on it!
