I interviewed a few ex-game dev bods for positions at a former place I worked at, and some of the stories they told were horrible.
Seems like a lot of the studios put a lot of emphasis on them being "trophy" employers. Millions of young kids would love to get into game development, so as well as there being competition for vacancies, once you're in, you're often leant upon to accept the unacceptable - super long working hours, inappropriate conduct, and general bullying, all with the heavily implied but never explicitly stated "well, if you're not happy, there's a million kids would love your job ..."
