Just done some research on a few Spurs forums...

and the general consensus seems to be that Bassong is a good cb when playing week in, week out.

Despite Bassong playing well at the start and being a regular in the 09/10 champions league qualification season, Spurs bought in better players such as Gallas while others back from long term injury. Bassong isn't a bad player, just not good enough to start reguarly for a top four chasing side.

However, he isn't the sort of player who is able to play well as a reserve, apparently the majority of his poor performances came when he had to replace others when they were injured. That shouldn't be a problem at NCFC seeing as he will be a certain starter barring a disaster.
