Lambert clearly had his reasons

Maybe one day we'll find out what they were. I suspect that despite all the media coverage we're not as financially sound as we claim to be and that money is still an issue.
The club went on record to say we had a bigger transfer budget than ever before yet it's questionable if our squad is any stronger than last year. Lambert was able to get the best out of average players, a gift not many managers have, now Hughton has the difficult job of emulating that and every decision he makes will be compared to Lambert so it's hardly surprising he wants to bring in his own ideas, tactics etc. Problem is that change takes time and the Premier league is very unforgiving. And if we can't get the best out of those average players we are undoubtedly weak, as shown today.
Can't blame the board for being cautious, Portsmouth are a classic example of how it all went wrong, Southampton, West Ham, Reading and QPR have all gambled, I'd be surprised if all stay up.
At the same time, Hughton has only watched these players for 2 months whereas we have watched them week in, week, through possibly our most exciting times, and think we know best. If CH is as smart as people make out, I expect a very different performance against QPR.
