Football should adopt the hockeyerists substitution system.

Sub on sidelines holds up the number of the player he's replacing. The infield player races over and grabs the number from off of on of out of the sub's hand, and the substitute races on to the field to take up his position. All done in the blink of an eye, and no 30 seconds to added for the faff.
