My mother in law isn't loving the Lympics

To paraphrase: oh I don't know why we bother, see we didn't get a gold in another sport, what's that all about, see we're rubbish, why do we bother, I shouldn't bother, really I shouldn't, we're rubbish, the opening was rubbish and all our lot are rubbish, oh we got a gold in that one, well that's ok but did you see that rubbish yesterday, rubbish we are, I don't know why we bother.....

So far I have manfully avoided asking her:

a) precisely what form her "bothering" takes - what positive contribution of hers is she bemoaning the lack of positive outcome from
b) whether she is distantly related to Gary Holt, so incessant is this Olympic Stream Of Whinge
c) why she can't JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP - even selwyns took the hint eventually
