Sometimes it's safer to get ahead of the traffic. He's not condoning mowing through pedestrian crossings, or diving out in front of traffic - in some cases it definitely is safer to jump a red, rather than having a driver try to scrape 1cm past you when the lights go.

Also, a Range Rover jumping lights, much more likely to kill someone.
