Cheques shouldn't be banked prior to your birthday as people may find out that you opened them prior to your birthday.

A cheque is debited from the payees account three days after you bank it, if you bank it today before 3.30, it will be taken from their bank on Friday, your birthday - someone may well smell a rat.
