I`m not in the know as some others on here but here goes

I saw Cavendish win something yesterday, then they were all talking about some other race immedietely afterwards - two races in one day?

I preume you are talking about the sprint finish on Friday. That was a stage win, there are 20 stages plus a prologue in total spread over 3 weeks. The other race you talk about is called the GC ( geberal classification) basically it`s the leader board and the leader is the one who has complete the stages in the shortest time

I heard on the news that traditionally they don't chase the guy in the yellow jersey on the final day. Not much of a race then, is it?

it`s race etiquette, traditionally the Yellow jersey is unchallenged on the final stage. but there will be a race when they get to Paris. it will be a sprint finish like friday.

Is it done on your overall time over the however many stages?
Yes

How does the team business work, and do those guys still get medals? Why don't they take 2nd, 3rd, 4th place?
This year there is a team classification, although I`m not sure what is on offer for them. Chris Froome will get second place because that is where he is in the GC.

As you can tell, I'm ignorant. Serious answers required. Thanks.

Like I say there are people on here with much more knowledge of it than me, I`ve only got into it over the last few years
