The problem R1 have had is that the average age of their audience in the last three years

has risen from 29 to 32. That means there's just as many mid-forties listeners (like me occasionally) as there are teenagers. That's a huge problem for a station who should be aiming at late teens and early twenties.

The BBC Trust has voiced their concerns, that their youth station is standing in the demographics of where Radio 2 are supposed to be.

Appointing Nick Grimshaw is a good move as the likelihood is his appeal will only be to 20-something former college students and trendy wendys in London leaving other radio stations to mop up the rest who don't really "get" him.
