Yeah, close up, 18 inches or so is fine (bit blurry)

Anything further away is double. Eyes are fixed at that 18 inches away point, but won't deepen the focal length any further.

Hospital reckon it's the nerves that control the muscles that move the eyes. So it could be some sort of viral palsy that'll just get better with time. They seem fairly sure it's not a brain tumour or an aneurysm.
