Mel Gibson.......I know this wont be popular............

But I really liked his last three films for different reasons.

Get the Gringo
The Beaver
Edge of Darkness.

Get the Gringo is a gritty late night type movie mostly set in a mexican "jail". Loved it.

The Beaver looks totally mad if you see the trailer but its much darker than portrayed and is actually an interesting attempt at making a movie about mental illness.
Its a tough subject but is handled well.

Edge of Darkness. Thriller type movie which also has some great performances. Ray Winstone is excellent as Jedburgh
