if this country had continued to act like a rudderless ship When Hitler invaded Poland. Or was it a knee jerk reaction to declare war.

FAO the board, stop taking the Neville Chamberlain role, pretending that everything is fine & ignoring the problem, hoping it will go away. Be a leader like Churchill & do what needs to be done, whatever the cost.
