A Thought

Lets say Delia is keeping Nigel in simply because it is too expensive to sack him. Is there anything that says she can't demote him? Whats to stop the board from saying "ok Nigel you won't walk away so go coach the youths or reserves, and by the way Dave Williams youre now managing the first team". I see absolutely nothing to stop the board from doing that. Nigel would be committing career suicide by accepting the demotion so in his interests to walk away with a small payout and get on with his life. Should he stubbornly stay then David Williams heres your chance. Everyone wins.
