Follow the money

A) Those that benefit the most from the benefits system are actually businesses.

Huge sums of housing benefit etc. etc. are actually paid to people in work. Therefore the govt is subsidising businesses to employ people on a low wage so that shareholders can make more money.

Employed people need to be given a fair living wage and then the govt won't have to subsidise their wages.

However, high wages mean that shareholders of those companies wouldn't be making much money (and the heads of those companies vote Conservative so no change will happen). Remember the Tories were even against the minimum wage (because their business backers were).

B) The benefits paid to unemployed people should be enough for a basic standard of living - housing, food, water and heating. I would favour a voucher system that ensures that food vouchers are for healthy foods.

C) The total value of unclaimed benefits far exceeds that of people who fiddle benefits. Therefore the govt don't want to make the system clearer else they will be paying out more money.
