There are technically gifted players out there but Hodgson has overlooked them. Why not try Adam Johnson, Micah Richards, Leon Britton, Scott Sinclair?...hell, even Surman and some of his Norwich cohorts deserve a look in!
Instead we get cloggers like Milner, Downing, Henderson, Carroll and others who get in based on reputations and price tags. None of these players are international footballers in anybody's wildest dreams.
Yeah, the fundamental problem is the lack of young gifted players being produced, but don't tell me Hodgson's way is the only way until we start to produce like Germany and Spain!
I'd rather England fail to qualify by trying to play the right way with fresh technically gifted players than clog their way through before the same old inevitable. At least setting a standard of having to play a certain way will set England up for a positive outcome in the long term. Under Hodgson we will just look to squeeze the percentages.
