You can put that down to Hodgson's tactics

I know England are not the best in possession, but usually we would show far more quality on the ball against Sweden and Ukraine.

The deep lying tactics were never more apparant than they were against France. England were set up just to contain the French rather than try and beat them. It's difficult to have much of the ball when you are camped in and around your own 18 yard area, resisting the urge to press the opposition while giving the ball away every time your defence (Lescott was particuarly bad for this) wins the ball back.

The tactics are rather dire to watch because they have sacrificed individual skill for the benefit of the whole team, although it has worked so far. Let's see if it works from here...
