There appears to be a huge amount of negativity on here and quite rightly so. However, lets consider the current position a little.
We've a manager who, since he's been here, has always been reluctant to give youth a chance, yet it's only now that we are critical of this.
He's also made a number of duff signings, yet again, it's now that we are unhappy about this (although I will concede it's been an ongoing thing with some of you), but it seems to be excacerbated now.
From my point of view, the only criticism that I believe can be levelled at worthy is his desire to sign "versatile" players, rather than build a squad with ready made replacements for each position. Simon Charlton is the perfect example. A left back, played in central defence for most of last seaon (when he played) and now playing CM.
Worthy's style of play is good, he seems to have the respect of the players and the board and his motives are honerable. Delia's right - you don't become bad overnight.
I agree that Wigan's position in the Prem is a little galling and demonstrates what we could have achieved had we made slightly better signings perhaps, but Worthy is here to stay. Ranting and raving won't change that.
Who's out there that's better? Burley? Yeah, like he'd be well received - remember Hamilton? Maybe we'll nick a young up and coming manager from somewhere. Who? Boothroyd? Newell? Why the hell would they leave to join us? Thet fancy their chances at promotion where they are.
So we look to the lower leagues and get a young up and coming manager. Hmmmm - not proven at this level, doesn't know the set up. Great idea. Maybe he'll keep us up!
Let's face it, of all the options, Worthy is a pretty good one. He needs pointing in the direction of the youth and reserve teams and without question needs to start looking there for talent, because there are some obviously decent players at that level who'd give their right nut to play for the team.
I for one will continue to support Worthy - with any relationship it has to be unquestionable support - let's face it, it's the club we love and clearly the board won't entertain the dismissal of Worthy, so get behind them at the games - I will be and I have to travel 550 miles for each home game and I attend them all. Trust me, it's no fun driving back up the A1 on a Saturday evening after watchinig a pile of s**te, but I'll still do it week in, week out.
We all love this club - let the people in charge worry about the management and just support the guys on the pitch.
