More likey his first act was to be honest to a loyal servant and tell him that

he couldn't guarantee him a starting place or more than say a 1 year contract.

Drury probably appreciates being able to play out his twilight years in a team he will probably not only start for, but perhaps even captain.

And there's always the lure of one more trophy which he's highly unlikely to get at Norwich over the next two years unless it's the League Cup which nobody gives much of a toss about.
