If this were the Tory Party

there would be a deputation of men in grey suits coming to put the word in the ear of the leader that the time to pass the mantle has come. I think Worthy has done really well in the past few seasons, but I think the Premiership was a step too far for him. His lack of nous was fully exposed and he only got away with it because expectations were so low. He's now been found out. His summer signings have been disastrous, as indeed were most of his signings at the atart of last season. Thinking it through, Louis - Jean has been injured for much of the season so far, but doesn't look too good to me from what little I've seen. Jarrett is just plain crap. Thorne has a reputation for goal scoring but has been injured so hasn't had the chance to impress. Marney is a real disappointment, and in fairness to Worthy, I thought he'd be good. He just isn't. Hughes gets stuck in but quite frankly, so does the average Sunday morning player. Average is the relevant adjective. Lisbie wasn't here long, but wasn't a regular starter even then, so he couldn't have been much cop. Colin is more or less OK but that's it. Davenport would be a good signing if we could get him.

That's not much return really, and when you think that players who have gone out like Francis, for all of his "couldn't give a f**k attitude" simply haven't been replaced. We've only got 3 recognised cenral midfield players that I can think of, and only Safri is of any quality amongst them.

My contention here is that we always talk about the quality in the squad, but actually we've probably only got 4 or 5 players that other Championship teams would covet and probably no more than 2 or 3 who would attract Premiership interest. The team bonding seems to be close to non-existant and the tactical approach is, to put it mildly, naff.

This tells me that the manager has either lost the dressing room, the plot or both and we can't afford to hang around in the vainglorious hope that somehow it's all going to come right. Everybody in football management has a sell-by date, and sadly Worthy has reached that point. He may well do a very good job with a new challenge, but we have to move on.

Christ kows who we might get is the only problem I have. Burley is available but being courted elsewhere, and would carry huge baggage. It's a risk I'd take if he were available. If not him then we might tempt Newell away from Luton. We definitely would need someone with a track record, because e.g. Ian Crook, popular c hoice as he would be, simmply hasn't got the CV to do the job, although first team coach might suit well.

It'it's all bloody hard but for the sake of the greater good, Worthy's time is up
