(I do think that the striking lack of goascoring in the squad strengthened Holt's case. But he wouldn't have played if he'd been pickeed anyway.)

Just saying that our squad - and our midfield in particular - is amazingly threadbare when it comes to goalscoring and goalmaking. All the more so when Walcott isn't picked.
