Acknowledged, but...

I would contend that that is more down to the Board than Worthy. In the summer of 2000 Hamilton was being forced to buy Bosmans and had Bellamy sold after one game of teh season with pretty much none of the proceeds available for re-investment. In the spring and summer of 2001 by contrast Worthy was able to spend about ?700k each on three players (Drury, Rivers, Emblen) as well as acquire Holt, Libbra and later that season Neilsen. This amount was large by Div 1 standards, as was the amount spent in summer 2003. Those are Worthy's only two good seasons, both acquired primarily using a chequebook not available to his predecessors. He just happened to be lucky enough to be at the club at a time when money was finally made available after the austerity of teh post-Chas eyears. He is currently frittering the club's gains from the last few years away. His peformance last season and this are frankly professionally negligent. In 5 years as manager it could be argued he has hardly bought any proper midfielders (Holt, Safri, Hughes & Jarrett) while acquiring innumerable forwards, who often end eup being plad out of position. Compare this with Curbishley, who has had success on teh principle that if you get the midfield right the defence and attack will be half-sorted already.
Sorry, that was a bit long. I used to think he was just learning but all the signs are that he isn't and that is no longer an excuse.
