Getting behind the flag...

...I'm not terribly proud of England, as in the way England supporters seem to be, and yet I am proud of most of the country of England. Even the north. The Scots and the Welsh love and celebrate their countries all the time and it's OK. As the supposed champions of the Commonwealth we're brought up to primarily wave the Jack not the cross. All this UK, Great Britain, Empire stuff stops us looking at our country in isolation; whereas the other lot do plus get taught to celebrate their history and denigrate their oppressor (the Welsh in general are a little more easy going tbf)..

It doesn't help to move the debate along when those EDL knobbers march along behind the St George's cross, as indeed have many others before them have, as it only makes me wanna run from it even more...

So I do my bit for Englishness by buying and wearing clothes that denote I'm English; either new or that much overused expression for 2nd hand clothing, vintage*. I would consider wearing a Union Jack but only if I can track down Pete Townsend's original Who jacket but that's about it but certainly not a St George's cross...

Random, directionless and inarticulate thoughts over...

PS My second hand inspired wardrobe has yet to include knights outfits but never say never

PPS Can't be arsed to go to another thread: give him some American Hard Gums to chew on DoY. It'll s**t him up and he may have to go to the dentist as well
