Loving the appointment of Hoots... loving the love in from the national media (well NCFC supporting Dennis & Nursey)... loving McNasty's work yet again.

Just over a week ago I refused to believe Lambert would go to Villa. Seven days ago I quickly came to terms with his sudden departure. Pessimism that everything was suddenly collapsing around us, was quickly replaced by a growing sense of optimism that this could actually, in fact, be a very good thing.

In the grand scheme of things Lambert was employed to get us out of the s**te as quickly as possible. He did his job, and then some! But, having got us to 12th in the Premier League after back-to-back promotions, was he the right man to continue that journey? Knowing how fiercely ambitious he was, and clearly utilising us as a stepping-stone to further his own stock... perhaps the end of his tenure came at the right time for all concerned.

The biggest threat to a business (any business) is to make changes when things are going well. However, it takes an incredibly bold and visionary leader to make changes when all appears to be going well. Whether Lambert was long-courted by Villa and his exit would be inevitable as soon as a bigger club came knocking might well be the case. Whether McNally was unable to apease a clearly restless and impatient manager may be the case. Then again, what if McNally had long-seen the storm clouds gathering and realised that change HAD to be made, regardless of the successes of the previous three years? Lambert's departure was always going to be inevitable, but was it really ALL on his own terms, or maybe Villa was just a timely escape route for him? I'm not suggesting for one minute that PL would have been given the Big-E... but was there in fact a helping-hand closer-to-home in his eventual decision to jump ship? Whatever the truth, Lambert's departure is a very small part of the big picture at Carrow Road. Hughton's brilliant appointment may just be the master-stroke of a very canny Chief Exec that helps us establish ourselves as a Premier League club over the next few years. I think McNally has long-known that Lambert would never be that man. Time will tell.
