All of them, pretty much to a man, we're convinced, absolutely convinced, that you were either a scummer or a regular user on a wind-up. I am pretty much the only person ever to have stood up for you, i.e. defend you as not a wind-up, not a piss taker.

I don't have to have met someone to 'take their side'. It's not an old pals act, however much you think it is.
