How proven was Dowie when he went to Palace?

I just think I'm craving an innovative and adventurous approach. And that's more likely from a newcomer than an older one.
I'm happy to see the director of football model if we want to carry some of the experience through.
I also want a coaching team which shows players how to take free kicks, corners, throw-ins and defend against same.
