I'm not saying he doesn't have value, just that teams aren't willing to take the risk that comes with a transfer fee. When we signed Zak he had completed the previous three seasons injury free, he was a good long term prospect. Clubs will look at him now and say "he hasn't played much in the last three years", in fact, Zak has played less than 140 career league games at the age of 28, what club is going to pay ?1 million plus for a player with that track record/CV, he's not even established as premier league defender.
Zak on a free with reasonable wages? Yeah, I can see clubs going in for him BECAUSE of HIS VALUE as a free agent counteracting his injury record, then the risk is worth it becuase you haven't thrown money down the toilet on a player if he gets injured, you just have to accomodate his potentially relatively modest wages.
I don't know why you're arguing the toss about it, there's so many reasons why you're idea never happens in football.
