He was a conscript not a marine. He boasted about getting to Sergeant though it was probably only corporal. He did also go the Malayan emergency. He used to help his mother sell stolen goods, various petty crimes and did time for hitting someone with a metal bar. When he came out he did numerous armed robberies. It seems he adjusted back to his pre-army life very well.
