UK Sport have announced that a footballer has tested positive for cocaine and is currently serving a six-month suspension.

The player, who falls under the jurisdiction of the Football Association, began his ban on August 19 and will not be allowed to return until February 18.

The news was only revealed on Thursday by UK Sport and the FA have refused to identify the player, his club, or the level at which he plays.

An FA spokesman told PA Sport: "The policy is not to name and shame. We deal with a balance of sanction and rehabilitation wherever possible.
